About Sonia
I believe in authenticity and in our work together I will always encourage you to do the same. I am a trauma survivor who is now thriving. I started my practice out of a love for black people and a desire to help them heal. I eventually focused in on working almost exclusively with black women because I know that we carry an extra heavy burden in society based on our gender and skin color which often leaves us feeling unworthy and unseen.
This is why I created Full Circle Therapy Services as a holistic antidote to our invisibility in the world. We specializes in the needs of black women recovering from intergenerational trauma which may show up as depression, anxiety, exhaustion or impostor syndrome among others. We do this by providing mental health care that does not create stigma but seeks to break it down so we can finally begin to heal. |
We do not pathologize the symptoms from trauma and abuse but shed light on them to bring about your inner healing. We value the whole person: mind, body and spirit. All of you is welcome in this space. I work best with clients who are down to earth and open minded. There are many different ways to heal that are holistic but non-traditional. If you are open-minded, expansive in your thinking regarding the ways we can heal and also committed to healing your life, we may work very well together. Clients who have worked best with me have understood that session time is not where change happens but in the day to day of life as their awareness of themselves changes and grows. I am not a magician and changes takes time but I know it is possible because I’ve made this same walk myself and come out on the other side. I know that the miracle of healing lies within you. My role is only as a facilitator and guide in that process.
Now for the semi-fancy stuff; I received my graduate degree in social work from the Catholic University of America. I have been practicing since 2011 and I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in the state of Maryland and the District of Columbia. I have taken extensive trainings in trauma to include Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), Internal Family Systems (IFS), the Trauma Conscious Yoga Method (TCYM) and Trauma-Informed Clinical Practice. I am currently participating in year one of a two year training for the Hakomi Mindful Somatic Psychology method. So if you don’t remember anything else remember this: I love what I do and have taken enough trainings to make sure I am good at it.
